わたしが視覚障がいの集まりが苦手な理由

昔から、そうだった。
別に、患者間が後ろ向きであるとか障がい者団体は年配の人が多い。
そんなことは理由ではないんです。

私が視覚障がいの集まりが苦手な理由は、
同じ病気の「全く光が見えない全盲の人と出会う」だからです。
どんなに強がっても、光を失うことを、受け入れられるかはわかりません。

きっと大丈夫。
今日も、そんなことを言い聞かせながら、出来ることをやってまいりたいと思います。

- The Reason Why I Don’t Like Gatherings of Visually Impaired People

It has been so since the old days.
It is not about that visually impaired people’s conversation is negative or
most members in the community of visually handicapped people are elderly people.

The reason why I don’t like the gathering of visually handicapped people is that
I meet “the totally blind people who cannot see the light at all” in that gathering.
Even though I try to stay strong, I don’t know if I can accept the fact
that I am going to lose the light.

“It will be all right.”
Persuading myself with these words,
I will do what I can to the best of my ability.

白杖をもつタイミング

三連休久しぶりに、視覚障がいをもつ
多くの方々と出会った。
とある企業主催の、調査に協力したり、
シンポジウムに参加したり。

白杖について、みんなともりあがった。
僕も腑に落ちるまで、１０年かかかった。

タイミングなんかないんです。

自分でつかないと判断して、
怪我したり、ぶつかったり、
自分に迷惑が掛かる程度であったら、いいんです。

どうしても、「逃げきれない」と思いつめ、
やむにやまれない状況になったら、
白杖をつけばいいんです。
自分で選んで、自分で納得すること。

そのタイミングを周りに見守ってもらえればと思います。

- Timing to Have White Cane.

I met a lot of visually impaired people in this three-day-weekend.
I participated in a symposium and cooperated with the survey
under the auspices of a company.

We got excited over talking about White Cane.
It took ten years to accept the fact
that someday I will need White Cane.

There is no best timing to have it.

I think I don’t have to use it to the extent that
I don’t get injured or I bump into someone.

But if I feel “I cannot escape” or “I am in a compelling situation”,
I can use White Cane.
The thing is, if i can choose to use it by myself
and accept to use it.

I hope the people around me watch me over the timing to use it.
